What does it take to succeed?
I listened to a motivational speaker describe the will necessary to succeed in terms of how bad you want to breathe when someone holds your head under water. If you want success that bad, you just may get it. Why do so few of us find success? It does not seem that our human nature is designed to drive so hard for a long term goal. We tend to get distracted by hanging out, smoking weed, drinking beer and chasing girls (or boys). We spend our bi-weekly paychecks before we get them on clothes and movies and consume products we don’t really need. Then we feel trapped. Complain about our low paying jobs or high tuition rates. It feels impossible to get ahead financially. We may have great ideas but no money to get them off the ground. Well these are all just excuses for the weak. The difference between the average person and the one who succeeds is drive and will power to cut out the fat. Its simple to put into words but very difficult to accomplish on a daily basis. You need to stop craving so much social interaction. You need to be comfortable being alone with your own thoughts. Organize those thoughts. Stop going out to bars and spending money on alcohol and drugs. Stop buying unnecessary clothes...its a downward spiral. To get out of it you need to just STOP. Its hard! But if you have a great idea, and you work for just minimum wage you can save up a few thousand in a few months. Im talking about cutting down your cell phone to $15 a month. Taking your car off the road and take the bus to work. Friday and Sat should go by without noticing your not out at the bars. When you are able to do this, you are now in control of your own destiny. No longer trapped by consumerism and minimum wage restrictions. I believe if you firmly peruse the love of your life whether that be music, art, design, writing, woodworking etc... you will find success. Remember what it was that you loved as a child, that thing that you could do for hours and the rest of the world did not exist. Start doing that again in your spare time, revisit your talents. Slowly cut out the useless partying. Register a business for $60. Design some business cards. Surround yourself with like minded individuals. Build a positive team of people around you. You can completely change the direction of your life in less than one year if that is what you want to do. Anyone can do it.
